Behind Iga Świątek is a painful defeat by Coco Gauff in the semi-finals of the Mutua Madrid Open. While the defeat by the American, who like the Pole is among the world's top, shouldn't be very surprising, the extent of the Pole's defeat is worrying. Gauff crushed Świątek on clay 6:1, 6:1. Such results have almost never happened to our tennis player in the past.

Currently, the vice-leader of the WTA ranking is already in Rome, where she is preparing for another "thousand-year" in a row, in which she will defend the title she won a year ago.

In the program "Prawda Futbolu" Zbigniew Boniek, present in the capital of Italy, spoke about what he saw during Iga Świątek's training at Foro Italico. The former president of the Polish Football Association expressed his belief that the Pole is capable of returning to the top of the WTA rankings.

— A few years ago, when I looked at her training: skills, physicality, moving from backhand to forehand, it seemed to me that she had such an advantage over everyone that it was impossible. Today I look at Iga's training and I don't see such a difference. I don't know if the others have progressed so much or if she has stopped. It's hard for me to say — Boniek confessed.

— She trained today (Monday — ed.) with great conviction. However, she must be pleased with herself sometimes, because you can lose in the semi-finals somewhere and it is not a tragedy, nobody has papers saying that they have to win all the tournaments — added the former president of the Polish Football Association.

Ahead of Świątek is a tournament in Rome, where she has won three times in previous years. "It's always been a good atmosphere for her, she's always done well here. These courts are quite fast, which may help Ida. We'll keep our fingers crossed. I'll definitely go to a few matches, there are a few of our players, we'll see what happens," he concluded.
